We are Jim Bailey and Earnie Payne. Together, we make up Sendai Karate Club based in Newcastle. With 5th Dan Chief Instructor Earnie, we’ve been teaching the Martial Arts known as Shotokan Karate now for over 35 years.
Karate is a system of self-defence and physical culture originally developed and refined in Okinawa and Japan. There are various styles of Karate and Shotokan is the most widely practiced style in the world. Upon arriving at England, the club was set up back in 1975 and is affiliated by the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB).
Here at Sendai Karate Club, we are passionate about teaching and spreading our love for the art of Shotokan Karate to others, no matter what age or level of fitness. Karate, although a lot of fun, does require a lot of physical fitness and endurance. So, not only does it bring you into a friendly community of like-minded people, but also has huge health benefits to keep you healthy and fit in the process.
We teach on a first come first serve basis, training on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you want to get booked in, feel free to contact us via call or email to get added to the list. Once booked, all you need to do is show up on the day!
